Perpetual Bliss

Don't Worry... Be Happy!

I am going to keep this one short and sweet despite the daunting title that may be promising too much for such a short discussion. Perpetual bliss is available to you. Right now. Starting right now in this moment, you can live in a state of steadiness, contentment, peace of mind, and serenity. How? By letting go. Of everything. No, I am not telling you to give away all of your material possessions or leave your family or stop caring for your puppy, just let go of any reliance on these things to bring you serenity. Peace of mind is just that: peace of MIND. It does not mean that the chaos around you ceases, just the chaos in your mind. Your mind does not, should not, and can not be a direct reflection of the world around you. Your mind absorbs certain information from the world around you and tries to make some kind of sense out of it. In the process, your mind has created feelings of frustration, anger, sadness, instability, and insecurity that just plain do not need to be there.  The next time you notice these feelings coming up, no matter what external stimulus you believe caused them, take a deep breath, relax your shoulders, relax your forehead, and smile. Even if it feels like the most inappropriate, unreasonable thing to do. Especially when it feels like the most inappropriate, unreasonable thing to do. Sure, some people might look at you funny or think you’re crazy, but that’s only because we have been conditioned to believe that the only time we can be happy is if something outside of ourselves prompts a happy response. Why shouldn’t we just be happy all the time? Instead of asking, “why are you smiling?”, shouldn’t we be asking, “why aren’t you smiling?” Most of us get to sleep in comfortable beds every night, we can easily find food if we are hungry and water if we are thirsty… why shouldn’t we feel perpetually grateful, perpetually happy? You don’t have to conform to what you have been taught about happiness. Just let go: your frustration will only ruin your own experience of what should and could be a beautiful, wholesome life! Don’t worry. Be happy 🙂
